  Our 2015 Health and Wellness challenge is fast approaching.  This challenge is designed to provide guidance for changes in your life that will have long lasting effects on your overall health and well-being. The challenge will officially begin on Monday, February 9, 2015 and go until Monday March 9, 2015. Registration will be SUNDAY FEB 8, 2015 at 12pm at the gym. We will host a meeting to explain all the rules and details of the challenge as well as provide measurements and weigh-ins for those interested. We will also perform a benchmark work out for those who would like to measure their performance as well. At the end of the challenge, we will have another weigh-in, work out and measurement day on SUNDAY MAR 8, 2015 at 12pm. Nutrition 101 Before you start stressing about how much protein/carb/fat you require. Make one simple and yet difficult step: focus on food quality.  Shop the perimeter of the grocery store. Buy fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat. Only venture down the aisles for a few select things like nuts, beans, olives, etc. The aisles are generally one big, processed, nutritionally worthless tease. Healthy food – organic plants and animals are perishable. If it doesn’t spoil little to no organic material still exists in the food, and that means it isn’t very nutritious, or it has been processed and coated with enough chemicals that the spoilage is delayed indefinitely. Real Food: Chicken, beef, fish, lamb, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Something Other than Real Food: Cereals, bread, pasta, table sugar, flour, potato chips, “instant” anything, “fat free” anything, sweets,  corn meal. The Zone Diet  

Prep time:  15-20 minutes Fridge time: 30 minutes Ingredients ½ cup pumpkin seeds ½ cup sunflower seeds ½ raisins ¼ cup hazelnuts ¼ cup walnuts ¼ cup almonds ¼ cup macadamia nuts ½ unsweetened organic coconut flakes 2-3 tablespoons almond butter 2-3 tablespoons honey Directions Mix all nuts, raisins and seeds together in a large bowl. Add almond butter and honey 1 tablespoon at a time until the mixture starts to stick together. Once mixture sticks together, I like to use a 1/3 cup measuring cup to make the mold. (You can use anything and any shape you like) Press the mixture down firmly into the mold then gently tap the mixture out onto your baking sheet or container. Once all of the mixture is used up, place them in the fridge. This will harden the nut butter and allow the pucks to maintain their shape. Keep them refrigerated. Enjoy…
